2007 ScooterMaxi Awards of Distinction

Honors go to Suzuki, Piaggio, Kymco

Suzuki, Piaggio and Kymco have claimed the 2007 ScooterMaxi Awards of Distinction. The inaugural honors go to the top maxiscooters in two classes, as well as the top lineup of big scooters. Launched late last year, ScooterMaxi.com provides news, information and reviews of scooters in the 250cc class and higher.

The redesigned Suzuki Burgman 400 was named 2007 Big Maxi of the Year.  The revolutionary Piaggio MP3 claimed 2007 Middleweight Maxi of the Year. The 2007 ScooterMaxi Lineup of the Year honor goes to Kymco.

“The scooters honored with Awards of Distinction in 2007 really have earned their stripes,” said ScooterMaxi.com founder Jim Robins. “We are seeing a broad array of superb large scooters offered, and these award winners rose to the top from an especially strong group of solid contenders.”

Suzuki Burgman 400 – 2007 Big Maxi of the Year

The Suzuki Burgman 400 has been a venerable name in scootering for years, so the decision to totally revamp the model in 2007 was a bit surprising. By any measure, the redesign is a huge success. The new Burgman 400 with a more-powerful engine can handle hours of freeway touring, yet is very nimble around town. Its below-seat storage capacity is unmatched. Every design aspect – appearance, handling, safety, fuel economy - is excellent. The Burgman 400 isn’t the largest scooter you can buy, but it does qualify as among the most versatile and economical vehicles on the road.

Piaggio MP3 – 2007 Middleweight Maxi of the Year

The most innovative scooter design concept in memory arrived in 2007 in the form of the Piaggio MP3. The sophisticated three-wheel design provides the ultimate in safety, ride comfort and stability.  Piaggio deserves applause for making a huge investment and significantly advancing industry design and safety standards despite the very real risk of market rejection. Although the MP3’s three-wheel look might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it clearly has opened scootering to a savvy, new market. We look forward to the larger-displacement MP3 versions coming to the U.S. later this year.

Kymco – 2007 ScooterMaxi Lineup of the Year

Many companies are expanding their maxiscooter offerings, but Kymco managed in 2007 to broaden and refine what already was the largest big scooter lineup available in the United States. Kymco offers a wide variety of styles, and brought out its first Big Maxi in 2007 – the well received Xciting 500. Kudos goes to Kymco for offering two big-wheelers in the 250cc class - the retro People 250, and the new, contemporary People S 250. Another new model is the Xciting 250, and a popular holdover is the Grandvista 250. With its extensive dealer network and a strong reputation for both quality and value, we feel Kymco has something to offer to anyone interested in riding a maxiscooter.
